Description

We are pleased to announce the Microsoft Power BI User Group meeting on June 24, 2019, at Microsoft Corporation, 3601 76th St W, Suite 600, Edina, MN 55435 from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

12:30 - 1:00     Check In / Pizza

1:00 - 1:20       Kick-off & Updates

1:20 - 1:40       What’s New in Power BI

1:40 – 2:40      Measure What Matters with Chad Burdette, SPS Commerce

Whether discussing business intelligence or data science, we are often focused on the metrics generated from and by the data. Choosing the right metrics matters. This session will define what a metric is, why they matter, how they are used, and give an example of some common metrics. Expanding on this foundation, we’ll explore how mindset and culture play an important role in a metrics driven organization. We’ll conclude the session with an overview of OKR’s (Objectives and Key Results) as addressed by John Doer in “Measure What Matters.” Good metrics are part art, part science, and developing them is important for understanding progress in achieving goals.

2:40 – 2:50      Break

2:50 - 3:20       Fourtneen Foods & Data with Mira Delatorre & Steven Lundstrom, Fourteen Foods

We mostly work with weather APIs and sales data. Power BI is a great tool to:

  • Load the data (We use APIs, SQL Server, MS Analysis Services, Access)
  • Analyze the data (Once the data is loaded, establishing relationships and cleaning the data can be challenging. We have run into a few issues that we never thought of and with the help of BI community we were able to resolve those problems in a way that makes so much sense and all in Power BI!)
  • Visualize the data (creating custom themes and choosing the right visuals to convey the story)

3:20 - 3:50       Supply Chain Improvements with Joe Petrulo & Mike Cary, Cargill Salt

Cargill Salt’s Supply Chain Planning and Customer Experience teams work to solve problems across our 13 manufacturing facilities, 80+ storage locations, and roughly 1,000 SKUs to meet the needs of our 8,500+ customers in the US and beyond. Our teams are often at the heart of complex, cross-functional problems that only data can help us solve. We extract and deliver everything from planning data like forecasts and production plans to transactional data like sales orders and delivery data. To date, our greatest achievements have been in eliminating manual data cleansing work and presenting this information in engaging ways to enable better supply chain planning decisions. In the Microsoft Power BI User Group, we will share two examples of how we have used Power BI to lower costs in our Supply Chain and improve service levels by bringing visibility to the drivers of On Time and In Full (OTIF) shipments.

3:50 - 4:30       Closing / Giveaways / Networking

Immediately following the meeting, join the board at Tavern 23 for Happy Hour!

Please note Happy Hour is at your own expense.
